If I therefore call myself a purple lawyer then what does this mean for me? In the wake of the new year, I have read quite a few blog posts and articles about various new year's resolutions and I am reluctant to follow that trend. However, I guess it is as good a time as ever to try and explain what it means. To me being a purple lawyer means being a different person (at work and at home) than the stereotypes or common depictions of lawyers in popular culture. It also means thinking and expressing myself creatively. And finally, in terms of my work it means trying to make a real difference to all members of the community and helping those disadvantaged or particularly vulnerable. This website began mainly to stop me feeling like i was losing my mind while at home looking after my newborn son. Yes, I love my son (then and now), but I needed something to keep me from going stir crazy. However, with sleep deprivation, the demands of breastfeeding and learning to actually be a good housekeeper (usually left that to my partner!), I didn't give the website a defined focus. No more excuses! My focus will be on my purpleness -which will include me writing about (anything and everything) being a parent, film or television reviews, my random artistic side, my passion for social justice issues and advice for young lawyers. So this is my promise to you: This year each of my blogs will fit into one of those categories. Stay tuned. My more specific goals for the website in general are:
I will of course always try to share the "purple" highlight of my day. Today, my work colleagues and I had a good chuckle debating whether another colleague's dress was blue or purple. Serious investigating and research was done by all. It was most amusing. Of course, I always see purple. When I see this particular co-worker wear purple (although she might think it is blue - or as we eventually agreed as "indigo") it makes me smile. And now that I think about it she does embody everything that Pantone says "Purple" represents. How many people can you say that about I wonder?
